SUMMARY:Stanly County Concert Association presents The Rowan Big Band
DESCRIPTION:The Rowan Big Band All Stars is an 18-piece community big band in the tradition of Glenn Miller\, Count Basie\, Duke Ellington and other great early twentieth-century bandleaders\, home-based in Landis\, NC and specializing in Great American Songbook favorites and “big band swing.” First organized in 2006\, the Band is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving this uniquely American style of music and sharing our appreciation of it with others. SUMMARY:Concerts on the Pier - Kate White
DESCRIPTION:The Concerts on the Pier returns in Summer 2022 as a concert series.  The second \nconcert of the series is  Saturday\, July 16 at 7:30 pm on Lake Tillery\, near Goat Island (the last cove before the southern dam on the Stanly County side of the lake) and will feature Miss Stanly County Kate White.  People can listen to the free concert from their boats\, from shore\, or by watching the live stream on the Stanly County Arts Council’s Facebook page. If interested in shore seating\, please email Austin Coats to reserve your spot @ coats_austin@yahoo.com. \nKate White\, 21\, a resident of New London\, was crowned Miss Stanly County last October. She has performed locally with The Talent Company and The Uwharrie Players since she was 10 years old.  Her most well-known role was playing Jo March in Little Women with The Talent Company in 2019. She will be returning to the stage as Laura Ingalls Wilder in Little House on The Prairie with The \nUwharrie Players from July 29- August 7 at the Agri- Civic Center. White recently returned from competing in the Miss North Carolina competition where she represented Stanly County well! Her social impact initiative is called “Find Your Spark” which promotes unique arts opportunities to Stanly County’s youth in order to help them find their artistic outlet! “I feel very honored to perform on the pier for the Stanly County Arts Council and raise money for a cause that I am so passionate about! ”  said Kate White. \nWhite’s strong vocals allow her to perform a range of genres of music.  The audience can look forward to hearing her sing Valerie by Amy Winehouse\, Shallow by Lady Gaga\, Drops of Jupiter by Train\, and Vienna by Billy Joel.  “I feel very honored to perform on the pier for the Stanly County Arts Council and raise money for a cause that I am so passionate about! ”  said Kate White. \n“We are so excited that Kate is part of our concert series.  It is a privilege for us to bring visibility to our aspiring\, local performers.  We hope everyone will come out and support Kate.  The arts have played an important role in her life\, so much so\, that her platform for Miss Stanly County was promoting the arts to our area youth.  We appreciate everything she has done this past year to spread her passion to others\,” said Lynn Plummer\, chairman of the Stanly County Arts Council. \n Concert on the Pier is the brainchild of Austin Coats. When the Covid pandemic hit\, Coats was living in New York City. During the New York shut down\, Coats decided to return to Stanly County until Covid restrictions improved. In Fall 2020\, Coats determined that performing from a pier for boats or for an audience socially distanced on shore would meet the needs to hear live music while being performed in a safe environment.  The first Concert on the Pier occurred on a chilly night in October 2020 with Coats performing and raising much needed funds for the local arts community by having donations benefit the Stanly County Arts Council. He followed that concert with another concert in May 2021\, with much better weather and once again the funds raised benefited the Stanly County Arts Council.  Even though the pandemic is at low levels and many of the precautions are no longer necessary\, the Concert on the Pier is still a great idea to enjoy live music.  To make it even better for Summer 2022\, Coats thought it would be wonderful to have a series and have other performers take the Pier.  The first concert was on June 18th with Dustin Curlee;  July 16th with Miss Stanly County Kate White\, and August 13th with Coats.  Each musician has their own style\, so it’ll be fun to attend all three.  Donations will be accepted again on behalf of the Stanly County Arts Council\, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit whose mission is to encourage and promote broad-based cultural and educational activities in the arts throughout Stanly County.

SUMMARY:Concerts on the Pier - Dustin Curlee
DESCRIPTION:The Concerts on the Pier returns in Summer 2022 as a concert series.  The first concert is this Saturday\, June 18 at 7:30 pm on Lake Tillery\, near Goat Island (the last cove before the southern dam on the Stanly County side of the lake) and will feature Dustin Curlee.  People can listen to the free concert from their boats\, from shore\, or by watching the live stream on the Stanly County Arts Council’s Facebook page. If interested in shore seating\, please email Austin Coats to reserve your spot @ coats_austin@yahoo.com. \n  \nDustin Curlee has been playing\, singing\, and performing music in the local area for the past eighteen years\, even though he’s only 24 years old. During the 2021-2022 American Idol competition\, Curlee successfully made it through three rounds of competition.  His favorite aspect of being in Hollywood with American Idol was performing on the stage of the Orpheum Theater\, where many superstars have performed before him.  Prior to American Idol\, Curlee won the talent competition at the Oakboro 4th of July Talent Show in 2018 and performed for the Miss North Carolina Scholarship Competition in 2021.  Curlee is married to Candace Curlee and resides in Stanfield with their five children.  For more information about Curlee and to hear some of his music\, check out his Facebook page:  facebook.com/dustinscurlee.  “We are so excited that Dustin is part of our concert series.  We hope that everyone will come to hear him perform.  We also can’t wait to see what the future holds for his professional music career.  Dustin’s passion is spreading his love of music to others and we know with his talent and passion\, he will achieve even greater success than he already has\,”  said Lynn Plummer\, chairman of the Stanly County Arts Council.

SUMMARY:Stanly County Concert Association presents The Malpass Brothers
DESCRIPTION:The second concert of the Stanly County Concert Association’s 73rd season is the Malpass Brothers. \n“Retrobilly duo The Malpass Brothers are the closest thing to Nashville’s Golden Age since the passing of Merle Haggard in 2016. In fact\, Haggard took a liking to the Goldsboro siblings and invited them to record at his California ranch. This followed a productive association with Hank Williams Sr.’s former pedal steel player\, Don Helms. With their carefully textured coifs and colorful Nudie-like suits\, the Malpass boys look the music they sing\, from honky-tonk classics to Louvin Brothers standards and old-time gospel.” — Jack Bernhardt\, (Raleigh) News & Observer \nThe retro sounds of Hank Williams\, Merle Haggard\, Ray Price\, Johnny Cash plus many others\, inspired the Malpass Brothers to perform the original country and bluegrass of past generations.  They even present themselves in dress\, boots and hair styles of those “olden” days.  Chris and Taylor began playing and singing at 7 years old\, spending hours listening to their granddad’s record collection.  Calling Goldsboro home\, the guys and their band are now traveling the country to entertain and preserve authentic country sounds.  They have performed with Willie Nelson\, Doyle Lawson\, Marty Stuart and others\, plus at the Grand Ole Opry and Merlefest.  They have recorded numerous albums with “Memory That Bad” climbing to the top CMT Top Ten.  with their own brand of comedy and interaction with audiences\, Chris and Taylor want this music to be around for future generations.  www.the malpassbrothers.com \nThe 2021-2022 season of the Stanly County Concert Association (SCCA) includes six concerts to enjoy\, including The Embers (already performed)\, The Malpass Brothers\, Paul Saik\, Music City Christmas featuring Meagan Taylor and Jason Coleman\, The Entertainers and The Hall Sisters.  For more information and to purchase season tickets\, visit the SCCA website at www. stanlyconcert.com.  Individual tickets may be purchased online\, box office at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center\, Starnes Jewelers\, or at the door the day of the concert.  Student Tickets:  $10; Adult Tickets:  $20.
