SUMMARY:Scholarship Application Deadline: High School Senior/College Freshman
DESCRIPTION:Stanly Arts Guild Scholarship\nThe Stanly Arts Guild has established an art scholarship to be awarded annually to a high school senior planning to enroll\, or college freshman enrolled\, in a visual arts or arts education program. The applicant must be a resident of Stanly County or an adjoining county (Anson\, Cabarrus\, Montgomery\, Rowan or Union Counties). A total of $1000 will be awarded in June\, and a check will be paid directly to the college in attendance of the scholarship winner. Application requirements must be completed and returned by 2:00 pm on Saturday\, May 9\, 2026 to be considered for this award. \nThe 2026 scholarship submission deadline is May 9th\, 2026. \nApplications for this scholarship are available at the Guild store during regular business hours or through the link on our website: \nScholarships \n \n \n

DESCRIPTION:A FREE event open to the public to learn more about the arts in Stanly County. \nStudent Art Show:  Come view the county-wide student art show\, showcasing the best from each elementary\, middle\, and high school in Stanly County plus work from the advertising\, graphic design\, and simulation and game animation students from Stanly Community College. A list of participants will be shared shortly. \nArtisans:  a variety of artisans will have booths demonstrating their craft as well as selling their creations.  A list of demonstrating artists will be shared shortly. \nInformation Booths:  Each arts organization will have a booth to promote their upcoming events as well as recruit new members or volunteers.  Arts-based businesses will be there selling their goods or available to answer questions about lessons\, etc.  A full list of exhibitors will be shared shortly. \nLive Performances:  Performances from choirs\, bands\, dance and theatre troupes will entertain audiences throughout the day in the auditorium as well as the lobby.  The schedule will be shared shortly. \nCreation Station:  an opportunity to create your own art to take home with you!  Learn water color techniques\, how to combine colors while creating 3D sculpture with Model Magic clay\,  create a rhythm instrument\, and more. \nLocal Authors:  Meet local authors and peruse & purchase books they have written.   A list of participating authors will be shared shortly. \nRaffles:  a chance to support the arts while taking a chance on winning great prizes \nAwards Ceremony:  at 1:45 pm we will announce the  winners of the America 250 Art Contest\, plus the 2026 Arts Person and Fine Arts Teacher of the Year!  Don’t miss it! \n  \nSpecial thanks to our sponsors: \nUwharrie Bank \nJuneberry Ridge \nCreation Station:  T.R. Dennis Memorial Photography Exhibition and Competition.\nAwarded prizes are 1st\, 2nd\, 3rd and 2 honorable mentions. Prize money will be $300 for 1st place\, $200 for 2nd place & $100 for 3rd place. SUMMARY:The Art of Laura Krug
DESCRIPTION:Laura Krug has been a resident of Stanly County for 22 years. Her home looks upon Morrow Mountain and has provided artistic inspiration at sunrise and sunset for her appreciation of nature. She worked for years as a registered nurse and has three children and 5 grandchildren. \nShe does community service as a volunteer in several organizations including Extension Master Gardeners\, Stanly County Beekeepers\, Three Rivers Quilt Guild\, First Lutheran Church Women’s group and the Community Inn She’s also been a member of the Friends of Morrow Mountain State Park and the Hospice of Stanly County Volunteers. She enjoyed taking her Therapy Dogs Valley and then Enzo to visit patients at local nursing homes\, the Cancer Center and Atrium Medical Center. Unfortunately her current dog Oscar isn’t suited to therapy work. \nLaura has been painting for about 10 years\, beginning with lessons with Beverly Dixon and now studies with the award winning local artist Janet Fisher. She has received an honorable mention for an abstract painting named Fairy Lake and most recently the Stanly Arts Guild Member’s Choice Award for her painting titled Poppies. \nHer favorite classic artist is Vincent Van Gogh\, finding his approach to depicting nature and use of vibrant colors inspirational. Laura’s chosen medium is acrylic paint and has dabbled with watercolor. Laura enjoys trying new techniques and painting subjects. \n

DESCRIPTION:Stanly Arts Guild is honored to present an exhibition of selected artwork by Jubal and Kenly Strube of Strube’s Creative Studio. Now available for viewing at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center. We hope you are able to spend some time to enjoy their work. \nJubal Strube: \nBorn in Mt. Pleasant\, North Carolina\, Jubal Strube discovered a passion for the arts during middle school: a spark that grew into a lifelong dedication to creativity and expression. This early love for artistic exploration guided Jubal toward formal training in the visual arts\, beginning with an Associate in Fine Arts in Visual Arts from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College in Concord\, NC 2016. \nContinuing to develop both skill and vision\, Jubal Strube earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2019. To further merge a love of art with a passion for education\, Jubal Strube completed a Teaching Certificate at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2024. \nSince 2023\, Jubal Strube has served as a Visual Arts Teacher at West Stanly High School\, inspiring young artists to explore their creativity and build confidence through artistic practice. Jubal’s work and teaching emphasize the importance of personal expression\, technical growth\, and the transformative power of the arts in everyday life. \nKenly Strube: \nKenly Strube grew up in the rural town of Olivia\, NC. Her passion for creativity and the arts started when she was young and matured as she went through high school. She obtained her BFA in Studio Art at UNC Chapel Hill in 2019. Kenly demonstrates an illustrative style: emphasizing her passion for nature\, video games\, and fantasy through her art and style. Her career path has evolved over time\, ranging from theatre props creator\, to currently the visual arts teacher at South Stanly High School. \nRecently\, Kenly and her husband\, Jubal Strube\, have started a small business together\, Strube’s Creative Studio\, by completing customers creative needs. Services range from custom pet portraits\, film restoration\, murals\, and much more!

DESCRIPTION:With over 30 years of experience as a quilter\, a former teacher\, and as a former student of Suzi Parron (author of Barn Quilts and the American Quilt Trail Movement)\, Tiffany is excited to offer this popular class to our area.\nA Class Fee of $55 includes $30 for the cost of supplies\, a 2’x2′ primed piece of outdoor grade sign wood and all paint needed to create your masterpiece.\nStudents will need to bring:\n1″ green painters’ tape\na pencil and eraser\na yardstick or long\nstraight edge at least 24″ in length\, and a hairdryer.

SUMMARY:The Stanly Arts Guild presents The 17th Annual Ellen Cook Gaskin Nature At Its Best Art Competition and Show
DESCRIPTION:The “Nature at its Best” exhibition and competition was created by the Gaskin brothers\, Jeff\, Chuck\, David\, Bob and Paul\, to promote the visual arts in Stanly County and the Uwharrie region of North Carolina. They also sponsor the show each year\, providing all prize money for the winners\, as well as funding for the show reception. These wonderful sons of Ellen Cook Gaskin and Dr. John S. Gaskin Jr. of Albemarle have made this show an annual event as a memorial to their mother. Ellen Cook Gaskin had a deep appreciation for both art and nature and she shared that love and appreciation with her family. Through this show\, her sons have chosen to honor her and to encourage artists to create expressions of “Nature at Its Best”. \nAll entries will reflect a nature theme. Works depicting Fish\, Feather\, Fur\, Field\, Forest\, or Flower will be accepted.
