SUMMARY:82nd Airborne Division Band & Chorus present "This We'll Defend:  The All American Story"
DESCRIPTION:The Stanly County Concert Association is proud to invite the community to celebrate America and our Army’s 250th birthday with the 82nd  Airborne Division Band and Chorus\, as they present “This We’ll Defend: The All American Story\,” a musical tribute to our nation. Since the Revolutionary War\, “This We’ll Defend” has remained the motto of the United States Army. It speaks to the resolve of those who serve\, from the Greatest Generation\, to today's Soldiers stationed all around the world. Celebrate this great nation and those who are sworn to protect it\, as we honor military service—past\, present\, and future—through music and storytelling by the All American Band and Chorus. \nSince this unit’s founding in 1942\, these active-duty Paratroopers continue to connect America to its Army by telling the Army Story and honoring Soldiers and Veterans as the Musical Ambassadors of the 82nd Airborne Division. \nBefore the concert begins at 4:00 p.m.\, small ensembles will be performing in the lobby to welcome guests. These preconcert performances will continue until 3:40 p.m.\, when the auditorium doors open for seating. \nThis promises to be an exciting and inspirational musical celebration for all! \nTickets are required\, but they are free for everyone. You may pick them up at Starnes Jewelers or the Stanly County AgriCivic Center\, and they will also be available at the door on the day of the event. Members of the Stanly County Concert Association may use their season tickets for admission. In addition\, on Saturday\, March 21st\, during the Celebration of the Arts at the AgriCivic Center\, Concert Association members will be on hand to give tickets to anyone interested in attending. \n  \nSponsored by the Stanly County Concert Association\, Uwharrie Bank in conjunction with the America 250 NC Stanly County committee. \n

DESCRIPTION:The Rowan Big Band All Stars is an 18-piece community big band based in Landis\, North Carolina\, performing in the classic style of legends like Glenn Miller\, Count Basie\, and Duke Ellington. Founded in 2006\, the band specializes in swing and Great American Songbook favorites. A nonprofit organization\, the band is dedicated to preserving the big band tradition while giving back—members volunteer their time\, and net proceeds from performances support local charities. DESCRIPTION:Award-Winning Jazz Duo: Sounds of A&R\nAwarded and named “Best Jazz Group” at the 2019 New York City Reader’s Jazz Awards\, the husband and wife duo known as Sounds of A&R\, or S.O.A.R. It is the brainchild of vocalist April May Webb and trumpeter and multi-instrumental professional Randall Haywood. In 2022\, S.O.A.R. was one of ten ensembles selected to represent the United States as U.S. Cultural Ambassadors as part of the American Music Abroad 2022 & 2023 international touring season. DESCRIPTION:Tropical Music Band\nLatin Swing Entertainment\, established in Raleigh\, North Carolina in January 2019\, is a vibrant tropical music band that specializes in a wide range of Latin genres including Salsa\, Merengue\, Cumbia\, and Bachata. The band was founded by trumpet player and musical director Sandry E Romero Miller\, who embarked on his musical journey in 1998 at the Music Conservatory “Jose Luis Paz” in Maracaibo\, Venezuela. With multiple CD releases and new material in the works\, the ensemble has also maintained a robust touring schedule. DESCRIPTION:Paul Chandley is from the mountains of east Tennessee and western North Carolina. A child prodigy\, he could read music notes before he could read words. Sophia Pavlenko\, born in Siberia and raised in Kiev\, Ukraine\, was also a child prodigy who wrote her first composition at age 5. Consummate solo performers\, they met when the Kiev Symphony and Chorus lost one of its U.S. venues and substituted a performance in the small North Carolina town where Paul was director of the Trinity Music Academy. It was love at first sight. Sophia spoke little English\, Paul spoke no Russian\, but according to Sophia\, “When we met\, we connected on a musical/emotional level.” “Music crosses all cultural boundaries\,” explains Paul\, “and speaks directly to the heart. Playing with Sophia the first time was the most fun I’ve ever had.” \n\n\nVISIT THEIR WEBSITE\n\n\n\n\nAfter a year’s international courtship\, they married and their future as a piano duo was sealed. Paul and Sophia have been delighting audiences for the past 18 years with their own arrangements from Classical Favorites to Ragtime\, along with Sophia’s dynamic original compositions. The sounds that floats from their two pianos have been called “virtuosic\, beautiful\, very approachable\, very listenable.” Their enthusiasm radiates across the footlights to the audience. \nThe couple launched The Paul and Sophia Music Foundation in February 2017\, to support\, educate and nurture a new generation of musicians. \n\nThis is the fourth of five concerts of the 2023-2024 Stanly County Concert Association’s concert season. SUMMARY:Stanly County Concert Association presents The Rowan Big Band
DESCRIPTION:The Rowan Big Band All Stars is an 18-piece community big band in the tradition of Glenn Miller\, Count Basie\, Duke Ellington and other great early twentieth-century bandleaders\, home-based in Landis\, NC and specializing in Great American Songbook favorites and “big band swing.” First organized in 2006\, the Band is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving this uniquely American style of music and sharing our appreciation of it with others. The members of the band volunteer their talents for performances\, and the net proceeds from their musical performances are used to support worthwhile local charities. \nFrom the beginning\, founder Ron Turbyfill’s vision for the Band has been not only to keep the heritage of big band music alive\, but also to support local charitable causes by providing quality entertainment for charity events and fundraisers. Over the years the band has performed at benefits for charities such as Communities in Schools\, Speedway Childrens Charities\, the USO\, American Cancer Society\, The American Legion Auxiliary\, W.G. DESCRIPTION:Christmas With The Celts is the brainchild of producer Ric Blair. Mr. Blair reigns as one the country’s most respected purveyors of Celtic music. American-born he credits the popularity of the Christmas With The Celts concert presentation and the nationwide broadcasting of the show as a PBS-TV special to his unique blend of modern Christmas standards and sounds with the spirit and sounds of Celtic roots. \nThe high-stepping spirited musical selections will have audiences clapping along from the first lively renditions of popular contemporary Christmas classics: ‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen’\, ‘Little Drummer Boy’\, ‘Santa Claus is Coming to Town’; also ‘Count Your Blessings’\, ‘White Christmas’ and John Lennon’s perennial ‘Happy Christmas’. DESCRIPTION:The Hall Sisters are from North Carolina and have performed in a range of venues\, from the Grand Ole Opry to Carnegie Hall. The sisters started taking lessons together in 2008. SUMMARY:Stanly County Concert Association presents Paul Saik
DESCRIPTION:The third concert of the 73rd Season of the Stanly County Concert Association is Paul Saik. \nA native of Jackson\, Mississippi\, Paul Saik began playing the piano at 3\, and at 13 had the position of pianist at First Baptist Church in Pearl\, Mississippi. At 16 he became head organist. With his Bachelor of music degree in piano\, Paul won numerous awards\, and studied abroad at the University of London. At Baylor University Paul earned a Masters of Music in both piano and organ. An accomplished vocalists as well\, Paul performed with opera companies around the world and on Broadway. \nHe leads religious music conferences\, special events and tours with programs of Broadway and popular music.
