DESCRIPTION:Tropical Music Band\nLatin Swing Entertainment\, established in Raleigh\, North Carolina in January 2019\, is a vibrant tropical music band that specializes in a wide range of Latin genres including Salsa\, Merengue\, Cumbia\, and Bachata. The band was founded by trumpet player and musical director Sandry E Romero Miller\, who embarked on his musical journey in 1998 at the Music Conservatory “Jose Luis Paz” in Maracaibo\, Venezuela. This early start led him to join the National System of Youth and Children’s Orchestras of Venezuela\, famously known as “El Sistema”. \nYou may purchase a season ticket and be entitled to all concerts or you may purchase individual tickets to the concerts.  Season Tickets are Adult $80; Student $25\, Family w/ 1 adult $90\, Family w/ 2 adults $170.  Individual tickets are adult $25  and student $10.  They may be purchased online\, at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center\, or at the door.  For more details\, please see the Stanly County Concert Association website:  Click here for Stanly County Concert Association website \nThis is the 4th of the 5 concert series for 2024-2025. DESCRIPTION:Award-Winning Jazz Duo: Sounds of A&R\nAwarded and named “Best Jazz Group” at the 2019 New York City Reader’s Jazz Awards\, the husband and wife duo known as Sounds of A&R\, or S.O.A.R. It is the brainchild of vocalist April May Webb and trumpeter and multi-instrumental professional Randall Haywood. In 2022\, S.O.A.R. was one of ten ensembles selected to represent the United States as U.S. Cultural Ambassadors as part of the American Music Abroad 2022 & 2023 international touring season. Third St\, transforms into an open-air dance floor. The Salisbury Swing Band\, renowned for their lively renditions of classic swing era hits\, is sure to get everyone moving. From the infectious rhythms of Benny Goodman to the smooth melodies of Glenn Miller\, their repertoire promises a delightful journey through the golden age of swing. \nThis event offers a unique opportunity to experience the rich history of Stanly County in a fun and engaging way. An Evening with Mike Wiley features his acclaimed one-man performance\, One Noble Journey: The Box Marked Freedom.\nJoin us on Thursday\, September 25 at 7:00 PM at The Albemarle Neighborhood Theatre\, 219 N. Third Street\, Downtown Albemarle for a compelling portrayal of courage\, resilience\, and the enduring pursuit of freedom. \nNationally acclaimed actor and playwright Mike Wiley brings to life the extraordinary true story of Henry “Box” Brown\, an enslaved man who escaped to freedom in 1849 by mailing himself in a wooden crate from Richmond\, Virginia\, to Philadelphia. Through gripping storytelling and dramatic performance\, Wiley immerses the audience in Brown’s harrowing journey—shedding light on the horrors of slavery and the strength of the human spirit.\nThis one-man show is more than just theatre—it’s an opportunity to reflect on our shared history as we approach the 250th anniversary of American independence.\nMike Wiley holds a Master of Fine Arts from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has served as the Lehman Brady Visiting Joint Chair Professor in Documentary Studies and American Studies at both Duke University and UNC-Chapel Hill. He was awarded the UNC Distinguished Alumni Award in 2017.\nIn 2020\, Wiley received the Ann Atwater Award from the Manbites Dog Theater Fund\, honoring his commitment to social justice through the arts. His accolades also include the NC Theatre Conference Constance Welsh Award for Theatre for Youth\, and his plays have been featured at arts industry conferences across North America. \nIn addition to his theatrical work\, Wiley is an Assistant Research Professor in the Kenan Institute for Ethics and the Program in Education at Duke University. He also co-directs America’s Hallowed Ground\, a Kenan Institute project that blends historical research with the arts to honor underrecognized sites of racial and historical significance in the U.S. Admission is free\, and all community members are encouraged to attend. DESCRIPTION:Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women in the United States\, and the 2nd leading cause of cancer death in women. In short\, it will touch someone you know until there is a cure.\nEach October\, The Stanly Arts Guild donates items for silent auction to raise funds to support local free mammograms. The donations kickoff will start October 1st-4th\, and continue to be accepted throughout October. However\, the longer an item is available to bid on\, the more opportunities there will be to raise funds for an amazing cause. Final bidding day (November 8th) will have light refreshments served while bidders have the opportunity to make their final offers. All proceeds will go to Stanly Health Foundation for their Free Mammogram Program.
