DESCRIPTION:For those who were unable to visit and view the Arts Council’s CELEBRATION OF THE ARTS Student Art Show recently on display at the Agri-Civic Center\, we are excited to present this virtual opportunity to experience the talent of the many young visual artists in our community. There are a total of five galleries to explore; two for our K-8 schools\, two for our High Schools & Stanly Community College entries\, and one for the Unite with Ukraine special exhibit by the students of South Stanly High School. \nThis student art show would not have been possible without the support and cooperation of the many visual art instructors involved. Fastidious\, depressed\, and none too tense\, Felix seems suicidal\, but as the action unfolds\, Oscar becomes the one with murder on his mind when the clean freak and the slob ultimately decide to room together with hilarious results as The Odd Couple is born. \nAmerican playwright and screenwriter Neil Simon (1927-2018) is widely regarded as one of the most successful\, prolific and performed playwrights in theatre history. And if the mess is any indication\, it’s no wonder that his wife left him. Late to arrive is Felix Unger\, who has just been separated from his wife. Fastidious\, depressed\, and none too tense\, Felix seems suicidal\, but as the action unfolds\, Oscar becomes the one with murder on his mind when the clean freak and the slob ultimately decide to room together with hilarious results as The Odd Couple is born. \nAmerican playwright and screenwriter Neil Simon (1927-2018) is widely regarded as one of the most successful\, prolific and performed playwrights in theatre history. Mr. Simon received more Academy and Tony nominations than any other writer. Tickets are $25 each and include a 3 course meal and the show. \n“We are very excited to be able to perform our murder-mystery dinner show again this year\,” says WSP director Wes Tucker. “This is a great opportunity for the audience to come have fun\, enjoy a great meal\, and a hilarious evening of entertainment.” \nThe Players presented their first interactive murder-mystery in 2004 and they have become one of the most popular and most requested types of plays the group produces. The format allows audience members to not only enjoy the show\, but to actually participate throughout the performance. Many audience members are considered suspects while others are given opportunities to interrogate the actors. At the end of the night\, some lucky audience member who follows the clues and figures out “whodunit” wins a prize. \n\n\nThe evening features two mysteries. First\, while audience members are enjoying their salad they are welcomed to Café Murder\, the appetizer round. Many first-time performers are featured in this short\, but hilarious mystery about a group of very eccentric sisters celebrating a birthday at the infamous Café Murder. Then\, while the entree is being served\, the audience is treated to the main course featuring many veteran actors\, Technology of a Murder. A twisted tail about shifty seductresses\, crafty conmen\, shameful scientists\, and a host of other shady characters\, where no one is who they seem and everyone is a potential suspect in a multi-layered murder. \n\nIn addition to the show\, the evening also features and outstanding three course meal in both locations. The meal includes salad\, an entrée\, dessert\, and a beverage; all served by the West Stanly Players waitstaff.\n\nTickets for the dinner theatre are $25 per person and include dinner and the show. SUMMARY:Stanly County Concert Association presents Paul Saik
DESCRIPTION:The third concert of the 73rd Season of the Stanly County Concert Association is Paul Saik. \nA native of Jackson\, Mississippi\, Paul Saik began playing the piano at 3\, and at 13 had the position of pianist at First Baptist Church in Pearl\, Mississippi. At 16 he became head organist. With his Bachelor of music degree in piano\, Paul won numerous awards\, and studied abroad at the University of London. At Baylor University Paul earned a Masters of Music in both piano and organ. An accomplished vocalists as well\, Paul performed with opera companies around the world and on Broadway. \nHe leads religious music conferences\, special events and tours with programs of Broadway and popular music. DESCRIPTION:After a two-year hiatus\, First Bank and Corning with the Stanly County Arts Council are excited to welcome back the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra to Stanly County. With this year’s concert being held just prior to Veteran’s Day\, it presented itself as a perfect opportunity to perform a patriotic concert called “Spirit of America.” The program includes familiar arrangements from Aaron Copland\, Percy Grainger\, Leroy Anderson\, John Williams\, and John Philip Sousa. \nWith our mission being “to encourage and promote broad-based cultural and educational activities in the arts throughout Stanly County” we wanted to make sure that everyone would be able to partake in this opportunity.  Our goal was to ensure that ticket prices were not cost-prohibitive.  Fortunately\, the local business community recognized the importance of this concert previously and again this year.  Their generosity ensured that financially we could afford to bring this concert to the local community.  First Bank and Corning are our Maestro (title) sponsors.  Dr. John Kilde of Charlotte Eye\, Ear\, Nose & Throat is our Concertmaster sponsor\, and our Principal sponsors include Stanly Community College\, Union Power\, and Uwharrie Bank. \nPfeiffer University is excited to be this year’s Student Ticket sponsor. DESCRIPTION:The second concert of the Stanly County Concert Association’s 73rd season is the Malpass Brothers. \n“Retrobilly duo The Malpass Brothers are the closest thing to Nashville’s Golden Age since the passing of Merle Haggard in 2016. In fact\, Haggard took a liking to the Goldsboro siblings and invited them to record at his California ranch. This followed a productive association with Hank Williams Sr.’s former pedal steel player\, Don Helms. SUMMARY:The Uwharrie Players Present "Blithe Spirit"
DESCRIPTION:A smash comedy hit of the London and Broadway stages\, this much-revived classic from playwright Noel Coward offers up fussy\, socialite novelist Charles Condomine\, who is re-married but haunted (literally) by the ghost of his late first wife\, the clever and insistent Elvira. Elvira’s spirit is accidentally called up by a visiting “happy medium\,” one Madame Arcati\, and soon clashes with Charles’ second (and very much alive) wife\, Ruth\, who can neither see nor hear the ghost. All the characters find themselves rather “spooked” by their situation\, and the seemingly benign events surrounding the séance quickly turn into a farce of supernatural proportions!
