DESCRIPTION:We have so many talented photographers in our area! \nSeveral years ago The Guild added an annual photography competition and exhibition to show off their talents. Sometimes the annual show would involve a particular theme\, while other years will employ a “photographer’s choice” to allow photographers to enter photos of any subject they prefer. After all\, we’ve all have our favorite topics.\nAwarded prizes are 1st\, 2nd\, 3rd and 2 honorable mentions. Prize money will be $300 for 1st place\, $200 for 2nd place & $100 for 3rd place. Honorable Mentions may be given at the judge’s discretion. SUMMARY:2026 Uwharrie Senior Games & Silver Arts
DESCRIPTION:The Uwharrie Senior Games & Silver Arts is a series of games and events for Seniors 50 and older to compete and showcase their skills and abilities. It also includes the arts submissions in which Seniors can display their artistic talents in several categories: performing arts (comedy\, drama\, dance\, instrumental\, singing)\, needlework\, woodworking\, basket weaving\, fiber arts\, crafting\, jewelry\, sculpting\, stained glass\, painting\, writing\, acrylics\, digital art\, drawing\, photography\, film\, and others. Participants must pre-register by March 27th\, submit their work on April 20th\, and pick up their work on April 30th. Winners who place will qualify for the North Carolina Senior Games & Silver Arts competition.

SUMMARY:The Stanly County Concert Association presents "Rowan Big Band"
DESCRIPTION:The Rowan Big Band All Stars is an 18-piece community big band based in Landis\, North Carolina\, performing in the classic style of legends like Glenn Miller\, Count Basie\, and Duke Ellington. Founded in 2006\, the band specializes in swing and Great American Songbook favorites. A nonprofit organization\, the band is dedicated to preserving the big band tradition while giving back—members volunteer their time\, and net proceeds from performances support local charities. Founder Ron Turbyfill envisioned the group as both a musical tribute and a force for good\, entertaining audiences at fundraisers for organizations like the USO\, American Cancer Society\, and more. \nClick here for the Rowan Big Band website \nThis is the third of four concerts of the 2025-2026 Season of the Stanly County Concert Association.  The season also includes: \n\nSunday\, April 12\, 2026 @ 4:00 pm:  The Salisbury Symphony Brass\n\nSingle tickets may be purchased for each individual concert for $25 for adult and $10 for student or become a member and receive tickets for the full season!  Available memberships are: \n\nAdult:  $80\nStudent:  $25\nFamily (1 adult and children under age 18):  $90\nFamily (2 adults and children under age 18):$170\nContact the Stanly County Concert Association for prorated membership fees.

SUMMARY:The Art of Laura Krug
DESCRIPTION:Laura Krug has been a resident of Stanly County for 22 years. Her home looks upon Morrow Mountain and has provided artistic inspiration at sunrise and sunset for her appreciation of nature. She worked for years as a registered nurse and has three children and 5 grandchildren. \nShe does community service as a volunteer in several organizations including Extension Master Gardeners\, Stanly County Beekeepers\, Three Rivers Quilt Guild\, First Lutheran Church Women’s group and the Community Inn She’s also been a member of the Friends of Morrow Mountain State Park and the Hospice of Stanly County Volunteers. She enjoyed taking her Therapy Dogs Valley and then Enzo to visit patients at local nursing homes\, the Cancer Center and Atrium Medical Center. Unfortunately her current dog Oscar isn’t suited to therapy work. \nLaura has been painting for about 10 years\, beginning with lessons with Beverly Dixon and now studies with the award winning local artist Janet Fisher. She has received an honorable mention for an abstract painting named Fairy Lake and most recently the Stanly Arts Guild Member’s Choice Award for her painting titled Poppies. \nHer favorite classic artist is Vincent Van Gogh\, finding his approach to depicting nature and use of vibrant colors inspirational. Laura’s chosen medium is acrylic paint and has dabbled with watercolor. Laura enjoys trying new techniques and painting subjects. \n

(Yes\, memberships are accepted during art take-in for the show!) Awarded prizes are 1st\, 2nd & 3rd place\, with honorable mention ribbons being handed out at the judge’s discretion. Our next Member’s Show will be January 14th thru February 7th\, 2026. Art take-in will be January 9th & January 10th\, 2026. Over that time\, they have become one of the most requested productions. The format allows audience members to not only enjoy the show and a great meal\, but actually participate in the performance. Some become suspects\, interrogate actors\, participate in onstage activities and ultimately follow the clues and figure out “whodunit” at the end of the night. \nWhen the audience enters they are welcomed as employees to the annual Kringle Company Christmas party. The evening’s entertainment features two Christmas murder mysteries. First\, guests are treated to the appetizer round\, The Knife Before Christmas. This short\, but hilarious mystery allows the audience to practice their detective skills and features many first-time performers. As the entree is being served they are introduced to Nicholas\, the CEO of Kringle the gift-giving app. He is a  jolly man in a red sweater that vaguely resembles another man in red\, as well as  the other characters in the main course\, Cutthroat Christmas. A twisted tale of lies\, deceit\, backstabbing and murder at a company Christmas party. \nA new feature this year is that for the first time the Players will be transforming their theatre at WSHS to a banquet hall for the first weekend of performances and then moving to the Magnolia Room at Atrium Stanly for the second weekend. \n“I have often thought about doing a dinner show in the theatre\, so this year we decided to do something different and perform at home\,” says Tucker. “I am also very excited about bringing our show to the Albemarle at Atrium Stanly for the first time as well.” \nIn addition to the show\, the evening also features an outstanding catered three course meal all served by the WSP. Guests are invited to wear their best ugly Christmas sweater for a contest during the evening and bring canned goods to donate as part of the WSP and National Honor Society food drive.  \n

This year the West Stanly Players are combining a Christmas play with their popular interactive murder mystery dinner theatre for another fun evening of food\, fun and murder\, where the audience is not only guests\, but suspects as well. \n“We try to rotate each year between Christmas plays and dinner theatre\, so this year we just decided to combine the two styles into one\,” says long-time WSP director Wes Tucker. “The show is guaranteed to provide the audience with a hilarious and exciting evening of entertainment from start to finish.” \nThe Players are no stranger to interactive dinner theatres\, performing their first over 20 years ago. Over that time\, they have become one of the most requested productions. The format allows audience members to not only enjoy the show and a great meal\, but actually participate in the performance. Some become suspects\, interrogate actors\, participate in onstage activities and ultimately follow the clues and figure out “whodunit” at the end of the night. \nWhen the audience enters they are welcomed as employees to the annual Kringle Company Christmas party. The evening’s entertainment features two Christmas murder mysteries. First\, guests are treated to the appetizer round\, The Knife Before Christmas. This short\, but hilarious mystery allows the audience to practice their detective skills and features many first-time performers. As the entree is being served they are introduced to Nicholas\, the CEO of Kringle the gift-giving app. He is a  jolly man in a red sweater that vaguely resembles another man in red\, as well as  the other characters in the main course\, Cutthroat Christmas. A twisted tale of lies\, deceit\, backstabbing and murder at a company Christmas party. \nA new feature this year is that for the first time the Players will be transforming their theatre at WSHS to a banquet hall for the first weekend of performances and then moving to the Magnolia Room at Atrium Stanly for the second weekend. \n“I have often thought about doing a dinner show in the theatre\, so this year we decided to do something different and perform at home\,” says Tucker. “I am also very excited about bringing our show to the Albemarle at Atrium Stanly for the first time as well.” \nIn addition to the show\, the evening also features an outstanding catered three course meal all served by the WSP. Guests are invited to wear their best ugly Christmas sweater for a contest during the evening and bring canned goods to donate as part of the WSP and National Honor Society food drive.  \n
