SUMMARY:Stanly County Concert Association presents The Rowan Big Band All Stars
DESCRIPTION:The Rowan Big Band All Stars is an 18-piece community big band in the tradition of Glenn Miller\, Count Basie\, Duke Ellington and other great early twentieth-century bandleaders\, home-based in Landis\, North Carolina and specializing in Great American Songbook favorites and “big band swing.”  First organized in 2006\, the Band is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving this uniquely American style of music and sharing our appreciation of it with others.  The members of our band volunteer their talents for performances\, and the net proceeds from our musical performances are used to support worthwhile local charities.  Our logo is a “swingin’ square.” \n​ \nThis is the third of five concerts of the 2023-2024 Stanly County Concert Association’s concert season. SUMMARY:Stanly County Concert Association presents Paul and Sophia:  2 Pianos\, 4 Hands\, 2 Hearts
DESCRIPTION:Paul Chandley is from the mountains of east Tennessee and western North Carolina. A child prodigy\, he could read music notes before he could read words. Sophia Pavlenko\, born in Siberia and raised in Kiev\, Ukraine\, was also a child prodigy who wrote her first composition at age 5. Consummate solo performers\, they met when the Kiev Symphony and Chorus lost one of its U.S. venues and substituted a performance in the small North Carolina town where Paul was director of the Trinity Music Academy. It was love at first sight. Sophia spoke little English\, Paul spoke no Russian\, but according to Sophia\, “When we met\, we connected on a musical/emotional level.” “Music crosses all cultural boundaries\,” explains Paul\, “and speaks directly to the heart. Playing with Sophia the first time was the most fun I’ve ever had.” \n\n\nVISIT THEIR WEBSITE\n\n\n\n\nAfter a year’s international courtship\, they married and their future as a piano duo was sealed. Paul and Sophia have been delighting audiences for the past 18 years with their own arrangements from Classical Favorites to Ragtime\, along with Sophia’s dynamic original compositions. The sounds that floats from their two pianos have been called “virtuosic\, beautiful\, very approachable\, very listenable.” Their enthusiasm radiates across the footlights to the audience. \nThe couple launched The Paul and Sophia Music Foundation in February 2017\, to support\, educate and nurture a new generation of musicians. \n\nThis is the fourth of five concerts of the 2023-2024 Stanly County Concert Association’s concert season. DESCRIPTION:The Stanly County Arts Council is excited to welcome back to Stanly County The Lowcountry Voices.  Come enjoy the sounds of Charleston with a free performance by Lowcountry Voices. This concert is a gift to the community by the Stanly County Arts Council in celebration of our 50th Anniversary!  Donations for the arts will be accepted at the door. \nLowcountry Voices debuted “Black Broadway” last May at the Spoleto Festival in Charleston. \nLOWCOUNTRY VOICES (LCV) is a community performing arts organization based in North Charleston but drawing members from across the region. LCV performs all genres in the choral repertoire with a special emphasis on African-American music\, including Black gospel\, spirituals and jazz\, as they were nurtured and performed in the SC Lowcountry. While the choir is based in North Charleston since its inception 10 years ago\, its members are drawn from across the entire Lowcountry region and as far away as Rock Hill and Columbia\, SC. LCV has ignited audiences locally and regionally as well as in New York\, New Jersey and Georgia. \nLowcountry Voices was honored to be asked to provide music for the nationally televised funeral services for the Honorable Reverend Clementa Pinckney\, the slain pastor of the Mother Emanuel AME Church tragedy. Additionally\, the choir was also honored to provide the background singing behind President Obama’s surprising and touching rendition of Amazing Grace. In July\, 2015\, LCV took the sounds of the Lowcountry internationally to Bermuda for two enthusiastically received performances.  Also in July\, Lowcountry Voices performed with music legend James Taylor in Columbia\, SC. The choir later traveled on tour to Toronto\, Canada. \nThe choir was honored to perform for the Charleston Gaillard Center’s Grand Re-Opening with noted gospel artist\, Karen Clark-Sheard. Most recently the choir performed for a capacity audience during 2022 Piccolo Spoleto\, and collaborated with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra for the Denmark Vesey Celebration this\npast July. \nNathan L Nelson Music Director LowCountry Voices\nLowcountry Voices is directed by NATHAN L NELSON.  Nelson is the Founding Director of Lowcountry Voices and continues to pursue his passion for preserving the cultural legacy and authenticity of African-American music. A native Charlestonian\, he began playing drums at age eight and by age thirteen\, he was organizing and directing local gospel and school choirs. From 2008 through 2012\, he was the Director of the CSO Spiritual Ensemble and Associate Director of the CSO Gospel Choir. He is called upon to conduct choral clinics for church musicians\, choral groups\, and orchestras and also helps initialize and enhance church music departments. He has conducted and performed in Canada\, England and Ghana\, West Africa\, and has mesmerized sold out audiences throughout the Southeast. He has collaborated with several outstanding artists in the field of gospel and spiritual music. Mr. Nelson\, a well-regarded public school music educator and administrator\, continues to work in the public education field. Mr. Nelson holds a BA Degree in Music Education with an emphasis on Choral Music and Secondary Education from Charleston Southern University and an MS Degree in Educational Leadership. \nLCV is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and is a fully registered charity in the State of South Carolina.

DESCRIPTION:A FREE event open to the public to learn more about the arts in Stanly County. \nStudent Art Show:  Come view the county-wide student art show\, showcasing the best from each elementary\, middle\, and high school in Stanly County plus work from the advertising\, graphic design\, and simulation and game animation students from Stanly Community College. \nInformation Booths:  Each arts organization will have a booth to promote their upcoming events as well as recruit new members or volunteers.  Arts-based businesses will be there selling their goods or available to answer questions about lessons\, etc. \nLive Performances:  Performances from choirs\, bands\, dance and theatre troupes will entertain audiences throughout the day in the auditorium as well as the lobby. \nCreation Station:  an opportunity to create your own art to take home with you!  Learn how to marbelize paper\, water color techniques\, create a rain stick\, and more. \nArtisans:  a variety of artisans will have booths demonstrating their craft as well as selling their creations. \nRaffles:  a chance to support the arts while taking a chance on winning great prizes \nAwards Ceremony:  at 12 pm we will announce the 2024 Arts Person and Fine Arts Teacher of the Year!  Don’t miss it!

(2-D art includes photography.)\nAwards will be given in 2 categories\, ages 9-12 & ages 13-17 for the following:\n• First place\n• Second place\n• Third place \nEntry Fees:\nArtists may enter up to 4 pieces total. Fees are as listed below:\n• Up to 2 pieces – $5; $2 each for up to 2 additional entries \nRules for Entry\n• Artists must be between the ages of 9 and 17 years old.\n• Art must not have won awards in any previous Stanly Arts Guild show.\n• Any art created from photos or other reference material should have permission from the originator of the photo or reference material and/or should be changed to make the art unique by the creator of the final art.\n• All artwork must remain on display until the end of the show.\n• Two dimensional art and photography must not exceed 48” x 36” and not weigh more than 35 pounds. It must be properly framed or painted/printed on gallery wrap canvas.\n• Three dimensional pieces must not weigh more than 75 pounds. The maximum acceptable base is 24” X 24”\, with a maximum height of 72”.\n• Entries must be properly prepared to hang – no saw tooth hangers will be accepted.\n• Artwork must be hand delivered.\n• Please note – if the number of entries exceeds available space\, the show may be juried.\n• Stanly Arts Guild reserves the right to decline entries deemed inappropriate\, not in good taste or works not properly prepared for display.

SUMMARY:Stanly Arts Guild 2024 Spring Craft Show
DESCRIPTION:About this show: This show is open to all vendors/crafters that make & sell items for use in inside & outside garden areas\, porches\, decks\, etc.\, for decoration and/or functional use. All items must be handcrafted or handmade. No kit or resale items will be allowed.\nLocation and Hours: The show will be staged in the sales area of the Stanly Arts Guild store\, located at 330-C N Second Street\, Albemarle\, NC. Current normal store hours apply: Wednesday\, 12-4\, Thursday 11-6\, Friday 11-6\, & Saturday 10-2. \nThe show/sale will be in place for a total of 8 weeks. The volunteers of the Stanly Arts Guild that work in the store each day will handle sales for all vendors during the show. The Stanly Arts Guild will also collect & remit state & county taxes for all sales. \nBooth Sizes & Fees: Booth sizes will be 4’x2’. Vendors may request multiple booths and must designate if they need them together or prefer for them to be separate. Booth fees are listed below:\n• Stanly Arts Guild members = $40 for a 4’x2’ booth ($5 per week)\n• Non-members = $60 for a 4’x2’ booth ($7.50 per week) (Become a Guild member for $20 for the rest of our 22-23 fiscal year\, thru June 30th\, & only pay $40 booth rental = $60 Total. Also\, commissions on all sales will be 15% vs. 30% for non-members.) \nVendors will be responsible for providing their own tables/booth furniture. Space is limited so vendors need to make sure their booth is no larger than the 4’x2’ previously specified. Use of risers and elevation changes is encouraged to enhance the appearance of your display. If lighting is desired or required vendors will need to contact the store director\, Wendy Hillhouse\, to discuss. Any approved lighting will need to be plugged into a surge protector & may need to be secured to the floor to prevent trip hazards. Access to receptacles is limited & will be provided on a first come\, first served basis\, so contact the store director as soon as possible to arrange lighting. (Store Director – Wendy Hillhouse – mobile # – call or text – 704-985-0855.) \nArtist’s payment: The Guild will remit payment of all sales to the artist\, less 15% commission for Guild members or 30% commission for non-members\, by May 15th\, 2024\, for April sales\, by June 15th\, 2024\, for May sales and by July 15th\, 2024\, for June sales. \nInventory: The Guild will provide each vendor with inventory sheets and an artist number\, (unless the vendor already has an artist number). The artist number\, the item number and price must be on all items on a removable tag. All items must be listed on inventory sheet(s). The Guild store volunteers will handle all sales and will update your inventory list. Guild members will be at the Guild store on set up days to assist each vendor with this process. \nItems and Jury Instructions: Due to the potentially high volume of participants\, this will be a juried show. When you bring your vendor application to the Guild\, please bring at least 2-3 pictures of the items you will be selling\, to be approved or send them via email to stanlyartsguild19@gmail.com. If you plan to sell multiple types of items\, (for example birdhouses\, bird baths\, butterfly houses\, etc.)\, be sure to provide examples of the different items in your pictures. Items brought in for sale will still be subject to review as pictures do not always depict the true nature of the product. If any product is deemed inappropriate or not meeting the criteria for participation\, the vendor will be asked to remove the item(s) and not include them in their sales booth for the duration of the sale. \nSet up Date and Time: Set up dates/times must be scheduled with the Store Director\, Wendy Hillhouse\, prior to the day of setup. Vendors may contact Wendy via text or call – 704-985-0855. Set up will be on the following dates/times:\n• Saturday\, April 13th – 1pm-4pm\n• Monday\, April15th – 1pm–4pm\n• Tuesday\, April 16th – 3pm-6pm\n• All booths must be set up by 12pm on Wednesday\, April 17th\, unless other arrangements have been made. \nBreak Down and Removal: Breakdown will be on Saturday\, June 8th\, from 2pm-4pm\, Monday\, June 10th\, from 1pm-4pm or Tuesday\, June 11th\, from 3pm-6pm. Any items remaining in the Guild store after 6pm on Tuesday\, June 11\, 2024\, will be considered property of the Stanly Arts Guild. \nGuild Responsibilities:\n• The Guild will provide space for your display in the most attractive manner possible while maintaining good visibility of your work for security reasons.\n• The Guild will handle all marketing for the show\, including ads on Facebook\, the Guild website & printed materials. The Guild will provide marketing materials to participating artists upon request.\n• The Guild will process all sales and will update your inventory records as sales occur.\n• The Guild will collect and remit all state and local sales tax on all sales. \nVendor/Participant Responsibilities:\n• Vendors must complete & return an application\, pictures of proposed sales items & booth rental fee no later than 6 pm\, Wednesday\, April 10th\, 2024.\n• Vendors must supply gift boxes and/or bags for jewelry items.\n• Vendors must provide their own tables and/or booth furniture. Table and/or furniture sizes need to conform to the specified booth size – 4’x2’.\n• Vendors must have their booth set up by 12pm\, Wednesday\, April 17th\, unless other arrangements have been made.\n• Vendors need to make sure all items for sale have removable tags which clearly denote their artist number\, item number and price.\n• Vendors must make sure that all items on display are accurately listed on their inventory sheets & that the inventory sheets are in the inventory book at the front desk.\n• Vendors are responsible for keeping their booth neat & organized\, as well as stocked with inventory for sales.
