DESCRIPTION:Stanly County has a rich history of prominent musicians. Many of these musicians taught and served in local churches and schools. Through their work\, others learned to make joyful sounds and cultivated a love of music. \nThis first in a series of “Prominent Musicians” programs will honor individuals in Albemarle: Margie Mauney\, Katherine Almond\, Mary Hearne\, Paul Frye\, Tommy Hauss\, Joann Morton\, Annyce Worsham and Marie Jones. \nThe Stanly County Historical Society’s program will be at 3 p.m. Feb. 2 at First Presbyterian Church\, 126 W. North St.\, in Albemarle. Michael Rowland\, organist at First Presbyterian Church\, will provide organ music during the presentations. The program is free and open to the public.

DESCRIPTION:Tropical Music Band\nLatin Swing Entertainment\, established in Raleigh\, North Carolina in January 2019\, is a vibrant tropical music band that specializes in a wide range of Latin genres including Salsa\, Merengue\, Cumbia\, and Bachata. The band was founded by trumpet player and musical director Sandry E Romero Miller\, who embarked on his musical journey in 1998 at the Music Conservatory “Jose Luis Paz” in Maracaibo\, Venezuela. This early start led him to join the National System of Youth and Children’s Orchestras of Venezuela\, famously known as “El Sistema”. \nYou may purchase a season ticket and be entitled to all concerts or you may purchase individual tickets to the concerts.  Season Tickets are Adult $80; Student $25\, Family w/ 1 adult $90\, Family w/ 2 adults $170.  Individual tickets are adult $25  and student $10.  They may be purchased online\, at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center\, or at the door.  For more details\, please see the Stanly County Concert Association website:  Click here for Stanly County Concert Association website \nThis is the 4th of the 5 concert series for 2024-2025. When Alice falls for her boss\, Tony\, a handsome scion of Wall Street\, she fears that their two families—so unlike in manner\, politics\, and finances—will never come together. During a disastrous dinner party\, Alice’s worst fears are confirmed. Her prospective in-laws are humiliated in a party game\, fireworks explode in the basement\, and the house is raided by the FBI. DESCRIPTION:The family of Martin Vanderhof lives “just around the corner from Columbia University—but don’t go looking for it.” Grandpa\, as Martin is more commonly known\, is the paterfamilias of a large and extended family: His daughter\, Penny\, who fancies herself a romance novelist; her husband\, Paul\, an amateur fireworks expert; their daughter\, Alice\, an attractive and loving girl who is still embarrassed by her family’s eccentricities—which include a xylophone player/leftist leaflet printer\, an untalented ballerina\, a couple on relief\, and a ballet master exiled from Soviet Russia. When Alice falls for her boss\, Tony\, a handsome scion of Wall Street\, she fears that their two families—so unlike in manner\, politics\, and finances—will never come together. During a disastrous dinner party\, Alice’s worst fears are confirmed. Her prospective in-laws are humiliated in a party game\, fireworks explode in the basement\, and the house is raided by the FBI. Frustrated and upset\, Alice intends to run away to the country\, until Grandpa and Co.—playing the role of Cupid—manage not only to bring the happy couple together\, but to set Tony’s father straight about the true priorities in life. DESCRIPTION:Award-Winning Jazz Duo: Sounds of A&R\nAwarded and named “Best Jazz Group” at the 2019 New York City Reader’s Jazz Awards\, the husband and wife duo known as Sounds of A&R\, or S.O.A.R. It is the brainchild of vocalist April May Webb and trumpeter and multi-instrumental professional Randall Haywood. In 2022\, S.O.A.R. was one of ten ensembles selected to represent the United States as U.S. Cultural Ambassadors as part of the American Music Abroad 2022 & 2023 international touring season. Mark your calendars for Saturday\, May 17th\, as the music fills the air at the charming Historic 1852 Isaiah Snuggs House in Downtown Albemarle. Swing dance lessons begin at 6:30 pm and the band takes the stage at 7:00 pm. \nStep back in time as the historic grounds of the Snuggs House\, located at 112 N. Third St\, transforms into an open-air dance floor. The Salisbury Swing Band\, renowned for their lively renditions of classic swing era hits\, is sure to get everyone moving. From the infectious rhythms of Benny Goodman to the smooth melodies of Glenn Miller\, their repertoire promises a delightful journey through the golden age of swing. \nThis event offers a unique opportunity to experience the rich history of Stanly County in a fun and engaging way. SUMMARY:The Stanly Arts Guild presents The 17th Annual Ellen Cook Gaskin Nature At Its Best Art Competition and Show
DESCRIPTION:The “Nature at its Best” exhibition and competition was created by the Gaskin brothers\, Jeff\, Chuck\, David\, Bob and Paul\, to promote the visual arts in Stanly County and the Uwharrie region of North Carolina. They also sponsor the show each year\, providing all prize money for the winners\, as well as funding for the show reception. These wonderful sons of Ellen Cook Gaskin and Dr. John S. Gaskin Jr. of Albemarle have made this show an annual event as a memorial to their mother. Ellen Cook Gaskin had a deep appreciation for both art and nature and she shared that love and appreciation with her family. Through this show\, her sons have chosen to honor her and to encourage artists to create expressions of “Nature at Its Best”. \nAll entries will reflect a nature theme. Works depicting Fish\, Feather\, Fur\, Field\, Forest\, or Flower will be accepted.

DESCRIPTION:The Entertainers have been a staple of Southern Beach Music for over 30 years\, launching their career with the regional hit “Living For The Summer.” Their energetic blend of R\&B\, Beach Music\, Top 40\, Classic Rock\, and Country has made them a favorite at clubs\, weddings\, festivals\, and corporate events from Washington\, DC to Naples\, Florida.
