SUMMARY:The Uwharrie Players presents "Down to Earth"
DESCRIPTION:Down to Earth\nBy Bettye Knapp\nDirector – James Cotton\nStage Manager – Cathy Starnes\nAlbemarle Neighborhood Theatre\nApril 21\, 22\, 28\, and 29 at 7:30pm\nApril 23 and 30 at 3:00pm \n\nTwo full-fledged angels descend to earth to pick up two elderly souls. One is a tyrannical and miserly old lady who has amassed a fortune by shrewd and domineering means and who is still looking for a way to take it with her – or she’s not going. She has nothing but contempt for her neighbor\, an old man with nothing but his love for his cat and his flowers to cheer him\, and who is fully resigned to going. Tagging along with the two angels for the experience is a one-winged apprentice who is a master of mischief with a lot of heart. He has a knack for making people fall in love – including one very unlikely pair\, the two old folks the angels have come to collect! \n\nCast\nAgnes – Nancy Cottingham\nWinifred – Debbie Williams\nPilone – Todd Basinger\nAugusta Applegate – Lynne Hancock\nDiana Clump – Herschelle Smith\nOrpha Teel – Lacey Whittaker\nRuthie Teel – Ava Mae Anderson\nMillie Bromsley – Marnie Nicholson\nBaxter Bromsley – Steve Forster\nJune Bromsley – Sarah Tysinger\nRichard White – Tyler Poplin\nHerman Howell – Tommy Johnson\nRobert Hanley – Tyler Poplin \n\n\n\n“Down to Earth” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French\, Inc. www.concordtheatricals.com

SUMMARY:The Diary of Anne Frank
DESCRIPTION:In this transcendently powerful new adaptation by Wendy Kesselman\, Anne Frank emerges from history a living\, lyrical\, intensely gifted young girl\, who confronts her rapidly changing life and the increasing horror of her time with astonishing honesty\, wit\, and determination. An impassioned drama about the lives of eight people hiding from the Nazis in a concealed storage attic\, THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK captures the claustrophobic realities of their daily existence—their fear\, their hope\, their laughter\, their grief. Each day of these two dark years\, Anne’s voice shines through: “When I write I shake off all my cares. But I want to achieve more than that. I want to be useful and bring enjoyment to all people\, even those I’ve never met. I want to go on living even after my death!” This is a new adaptation for a new generation. \nJoin us for a talk back following the Thursday\, November 3rd performance featuring Holocaust experts\, the director of the show\, and cast members. The talk back will be moderated by 90.7 WFAE’s David Boraks.

SUMMARY:The Uwharrie Players presents The Odd Couple
DESCRIPTION:The Uwharrie Players presents Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple\, directed by Austin Coats. \nThis classic comedy opens as a group of the guys assemble for cards in the apartment of divorced Oscar Madison. And if the mess is any indication\, it’s no wonder that his wife left him. Late to arrive is Felix Unger\, who has just been separated from his wife. Fastidious\, depressed\, and none too tense\, Felix seems suicidal\, but as the action unfolds\, Oscar becomes the one with murder on his mind when the clean freak and the slob ultimately decide to room together with hilarious results as The Odd Couple is born. \nAmerican playwright and screenwriter Neil Simon (1927-2018) is widely regarded as one of the most successful\, prolific and performed playwrights in theatre history. Mr. Simon received more Academy and Tony nominations than any other writer. Awards he received include the Pulitzer Prize for Lost In Yonkers\, Emmy Awards for The Sid Caesar Show and The Phil Silvers Show\, Tony Awards for The Odd Couple\, Biloxi Blues\, Lost In Yonkers and a special Tony Award For Overall Contribution To The Theatre.  Other award nominations for The Odd Couple included a Writers Guild Screen Award and an Oscar nomination. \nAdvance tickets available at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center\, 2nd Street Sundries (221 N. 2nd St.\, Albemarle) or online at Odd Couple Online Ticket Sales \nTickets prices are:\nAdult $13.00 advance\, $15.00 at the door\nJunior (11 to 21) or Senior (65 & Over) $10.00 in advance\, $12.00 at the door\nChild (10 & Under) $5.00 flat rate \nSeason Tickets for 2022 will be available soon! SUMMARY:The Uwharrie Players Present "Blithe Spirit"
DESCRIPTION:A smash comedy hit of the London and Broadway stages\, this much-revived classic from playwright Noel Coward offers up fussy\, socialite novelist Charles Condomine\, who is re-married but haunted (literally) by the ghost of his late first wife\, the clever and insistent Elvira. Elvira’s spirit is accidentally called up by a visiting “happy medium\,” one Madame Arcati\, and soon clashes with Charles’ second (and very much alive) wife\, Ruth\, who can neither see nor hear the ghost. All the characters find themselves rather “spooked” by their situation\, and the seemingly benign events surrounding the séance quickly turn into a farce of supernatural proportions!
