Swing dance lessons begin at 6:30 pm and the band takes the stage at 7:00 pm. \nStep back in time as the historic grounds of the Snuggs House\, located at 112 N. Third St\, transforms into an open-air dance floor. The Salisbury Swing Band\, renowned for their lively renditions of classic swing era hits\, is sure to get everyone moving. From the infectious rhythms of Benny Goodman to the smooth melodies of Glenn Miller\, their repertoire promises a delightful journey through the golden age of swing. \nThis event offers a unique opportunity to experience the rich history of Stanly County in a fun and engaging way. The 1852 Isaiah Snuggs House\, a beautiful example of mid-19th century architecture\, provides a picturesque backdrop for an evening of music and community spirit. Imagine twirling under the stars with the sounds of brass and woodwinds creating a magical atmosphere. Albemarle residents Frank and Beth Poolos along with Billie Jean Snuggs perform with this popular band. \n“We are so excited to host The Salisbury Swing Band at the Isaiah Snuggs House\,” says Beth Swanner\, Special Events Co-Chairperson “This event is a wonderful way to bring people together\, celebrate our local history\, and enjoy fantastic live music. Proceeds from this event will fund educational programs and preservation initiatives of the Stanly County Historical Society\, a 501 (c) 3 non profit organization. \nThis self guided tour will allow access to 10 private and public courtyard and garden spaces stretching from Albemarle to Richfield that will delight and inspire you. The tour features a variety of garden spaces including DIY landscapes\, restored formal gardens and centuries old family farms. \nAdvance $15 wristband tickets will be available at the Stanly County History Center\, 157 N. Second St in Downtown Albemarle beginning March 1\, or by mail order to Stanly County Historical Society\, PO Box 1384\, Albemarle\, NC 28002. DESCRIPTION:The Stanly County Historical Society will host a Historical Walking Tour of Downtown Albemarle. Maps will be available at the Isaiah Snuggs House at 112 N. Third in Downtown Albemarle. Eight historical interpreters will be stationed along the route of the original 6 blocks. Walkers may begin the self-guided tours at their leisure. Reservations are required for a riding tour on The Amaz’N Blaz”N Fire Truck. Reserve your seat by calling 704-986-3777 or pre-register at HistoricStanly.org. Seating is very limited for riding tours at 2:30\, 3:00\, 3:30 and 4:00.

SUMMARY:International Play Music on the Porch Day!
DESCRIPTION:“What if for one day everything stopped…and we all just listened to the music?” This was the thought of the founder\, Brian Mallman in 2013. International Play Music on the Porch Day is always the last Saturday in August and has been observed in over 70 countries and 700 cities worldwide. This year\, Stanly County Historical Society will host 12 hours of continuous music on the porches of our historic houses. Bring a lawn chair and spend an hour or the day. A free 8:00 pm lawn concert by Radio Flyer Bluegrass Band is made possible by a Stanly County Community Foundation Grant. DESCRIPTION:Enjoy an evening lawn concert with A.J. Bennett. A.J. is an accomplished musician and plays mandolin\, guitar\, banjo and fiddle. His concert will run the gamut from from Bach to Charlie Pride\, Ed Sheeran and everything in between. Lawn seating will be limited to 50 guests and guests should reserve space by registering on HistoricStanly.org. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and wear a face covering as a courtesy to those around you.

Snuggs and Freeman-Marks Houses\, the AIRING OF THE QUILTS will feature quilts by members of the Three Rivers Quilters Guild and the Stanly County History Center’s Civil War-era quilt collection.  \nPlease note: the airing is dependent on the weather and will be rescheduled as needed.
