Inspired by a true story and featuring the Tony®-nominated score by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, Broadway’s BRIGHT STAR tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption set against the backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and ’40s. Set in the Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina, this Bluegrass-tinged musical is rooted in Appalachian folk tales and songs.
1940’s Literary Editor Alice Murphy meets Billy Cane, a young soldier just home from serving in World War II. As Billy pursues his life-long dream of being an author, Alice is transported back to the 1920’s & the dreams of her youth, each following their own BRIGHT STAR. As the story of Alice and Billy’s lives simultaneously unfold with beautiful melodies and moving characters, the rich saga & deep emotions of their theatrical journey serve as a sincere reminder – no matter how dark the world gets, the sun will shine again.

All auditions, call-backs and rehearsals will be held at The Uwharrie Players Clubhouse, 546 East Main St. Albemarle, NC
Auditions are drop-in; there are no appointment slots. Actors of color and varied ethnicities are encouraged to audition. All ages, from high school to adult, all genders and all physical abilities are welcome.
