The Stanly County Arts Council is hosting its annual Summer Arts Camp for two weeks at two different locations in Stanly County. The first week of camp will be July 6-9, 2026, at West Stanly High School in Red Cross, NC. The second week of camp will be July 13-16, 2026, at Albemarle High School, Albemarle. The camp is for any rising 1st – 6th grader (current K-5th grader.) Each day, campers will explore classes in Theatre, Dance, Music, and Visual Art, all taught by licensed professionals. Camp begins at 9:00 am and concludes at 2:00 pm each day. Campers are responsible for bringing their own bag lunches Monday – Wednesday, but the Arts Council will host a Pizza Party on Thursday, July 9th and July 16th. Snacks and bottled water will be provided each day. Cost is only $125 per camper per week which includes all materials plus a camp T-shirt. Sibling Discount available: $100 for each additional camper from the same household.
Camp Director is Wes Tucker. Tucker initiated the camp in 2008 and has served as camp director each year. Tucker, the director of the West Stanly Players and the Chair of English/Drama Department at West Stanly High School, will be the theatre teacher. Returning visual art teacher from Oakboro Choice STEM School & Millingport Elementary, Rebekah Crisco, will lead your child through creating their own canvas art masterpiece that you will enjoy for many years. Former Albemarle Academy of Dance teacher Mary Grubbs will teach each camper different types of dances and choreography plus the basics of biomechanics of the human body. Ariel Jones, band director at West Stanly High School, returns to teach the campers about different aspects of music, from rhythm to genres and different instruments.
Online registration will begin March 30, 2026. Registration is not complete until camp registration fees are received. Each family will be emailed an invoice due upon receipt. Registrations will close May 1, 2026, or until camp is full. Enrollment is limited.
The Stanly County Arts Council, founded in 1974, continues to promote and support all art forms in the community. Its mission is to encourage and promote broad-based cultural and educational activities in the arts throughout Stanly County. The Summer Arts Camp allows the youth in Stanly County to continue their arts education during the summer months in a fun, relaxed camp-like environment.
SCHOLARSHIPS, funded by Atrium Health – Stanly and private donors, are available to qualified families. Scholarship applications will be made available the week of March 30th and are due no later than May 1, 2026. (Earlier if camp fills up prior to May 1st. An email with new deadline will be sent to all registered campers if this occurs.)
