Paul Chandley is from the mountains of east Tennessee and western North Carolina. A child prodigy, he could read music notes before he could read words. Sophia Pavlenko, born in Siberia and raised in Kiev, Ukraine, was also a child prodigy who wrote her first composition at age 5. The third concert of the 73rd Season of the Stanly County Concert Association is Paul Saik. A native of Jackson, Mississippi, Paul Saik began playing the piano at 3, and at 13 had the position of pianist at First Baptist Church in Pearl, Mississippi. At 16 he became head organist. With his Bachelor of music degree in piano, Paul won numerous awards, and studied abroad at the University of London. At Baylor University Paul earned a Masters of Music in both piano and organ.
