Sonatas in the Sanctuary: A Classical Sunday Matinee

Musicians Present “Sonatas in the Sanctuary” Concert at First Presbyterian Church
First Presbyterian Church, Albemarle invites the community to an afternoon of classical music featuring Sonatas in the Sanctuary, an Organ and Flute Concert scheduled for July 26 at 3:00 PM.The performance brings together celebrated musicians Michael Rowland (organ) and Amy Orsinger Whitehead (flute) for a diverse program bridging the Baroque and Romantic eras.
The duo will perform two flute and keyboard sonatas together, highlighting works by J.S. Bach (1685–1750) and Joseph Bodin de Boismortier (1689–1755)—two masters who were almost exact historical contemporaries. Additionally, the program features individual solo selections, including an organ sonata by Felix Mendelssohn and a Vivaldi concerto transcribed for the organ by Bach.
Michael Rowland (Organ) serves as the organist at First Presbyterian Church, Albemarle. He previously spent nine years as the Associate Music Director at Davidson College Presbyterian Church and Artist Associate in Accompanying at Davidson College, following tenures at Salem College and Ardmore United Methodist Church. He has performed widely across the East Coast and Europe.
Amy Orsinger Whitehead (Flute) has been a flautist with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra since 1997. A dedicated educator and chamber musician, she performs with the Rhodora Winds, the Laurel Trio, and Flute4, and serves on the faculty at Davidson College. She holds degrees from Duquesne University and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
