Dust off your dancing shoes and prepare for an evening of toe-tapping tunes! The Stanly County Historical Society is thrilled to announce Swinging in the Streets, a special event featuring the vibrant sounds of The Salisbury Swing Band. Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 17th, as the music fills the air at the charming Historic 1852 Isaiah Snuggs House in Downtown Albemarle. Swing dance lessons begin at 6:30 pm and the band takes the stage at 7:00 pm.
Step back in time as the historic grounds of the Snuggs House, located at 112 N. Third St, transforms into an open-air dance floor. The Salisbury Swing Band, renowned for their lively renditions of classic swing era hits, is sure to get everyone moving. From the infectious rhythms of Benny Goodman to the smooth melodies of Glenn Miller, their repertoire promises a delightful journey through the golden age of swing.
This event offers a unique opportunity to experience the rich history of Stanly County in a fun and engaging way. The 1852 Isaiah Snuggs House, a beautiful example of mid-19th century architecture, provides a picturesque backdrop for an evening of music and community spirit. Imagine twirling under the stars with the sounds of brass and woodwinds creating a magical atmosphere. Albemarle residents Frank and Beth Poolos along with Billie Jean Snuggs perform with this popular band.
“We are so excited to host The Salisbury Swing Band at the Isaiah Snuggs House,” says Beth Swanner, Special Events Co-Chairperson “This event is a wonderful way to bring people together, celebrate our local history, and enjoy fantastic live music. We encourage everyone to come out and experience the joy of swing in a truly unique setting.”
Swinging in the Streets is free and open to the public. Attendees should bring their own lawn chairs or blankets to relax and enjoy the music. The venue is located in the Downtown Social District so request your beverage served in a social district cup at Uwharrie Brewing. While dancing is highly encouraged, there’s plenty of space to simply sit back, soak in the ambiance, and appreciate the talent of The Salisbury Swing Band.
